Wide former road with classic tracks and a skate lane when maintained. No dogs. Avalanche terrain begins beyond the groomed viewpoint area.

The crown jewel of Lake Louise cross-country skiing. This wide, former road offers a steady, gentle climb with world-class views of the Valley of the Ten Peaks.

Tracksetting & Terrain

  • Grooming: Double trackset with a wide skate lane in the center.
  • Distance: 8.0 km one-way to the Consolation Lakes junction (16 km return).
  • Elevation: 250 m steady gain.

Safety & Avalanche Risk

The first 8 km to the viewpoint is generally safe (Class 1). However, do not proceed past the end of the grooming at the Consolation Lakes junction. Beyond this point, the road enters complex avalanche terrain (Class 3) with massive overhead hazards from Mt. Temple.

Ski Etiquette

  • No Dogs: This is a strictly no-dogs trail to preserve the grooming.
  • Downhill Yield: Skiers descending have the right of way, but on this wide road, there is plenty of room for everyone. Stay in your tracks.
