Follow the path of history. This wide, graded trail follows the route of the historic CPR tramway that once carried guests from the train station to the Chateau (1912–1930).

The Route Experience

The trail offers a steady, gentle 3% grade, making it the easiest way to walk between the village and the lake. It is popular with both hikers and mountain bikers.

  • Historic Markers: Look for old railway ties and telegraph poles still visible in the forest along the path.
  • The Halfway View: A clearing about halfway up offers a unique profile view of the Chateau and the Victoria Glacier.

Safety & Etiquette

  • Multi-Use: This is a shared trail. Hikers should stay to the right to allow mountain bikers to pass safely.
  • Wildlife: The trail passes through a high-use Grizzly corridor. Make noise and carry bear spray.

Photography Tips

  • Forest Light: The dappled sunlight through the subalpine forest provides great opportunities for atmospheric shots.
