The "Twenty Dollar View." This short climb leads to the most famous vista in Canada, looking across the electric-blue Moraine Lake toward the Valley of the Ten Peaks.

The Route Experience

The trail consists of a series of stone steps and switchbacks built into the back of a massive rock mound (a natural dam created by a rockslide). It is short but steep.

  • The Summit: There are several viewing platforms at the top. Explore all of them for different angles of the peaks.
  • Pikas and Marmots: Listen for the "eep" of the pika or the whistle of the hoary marmot among the boulders.

Safety & Etiquette

  • Stay on Path: Do not scramble over the rocks outside the designated viewing areas. The rocks are unstable and the vegetation is fragile.
  • Crowds: This is one of the busiest spots in the Rockies. Be patient and share the space.

Photography Tips

  • Sunrise: The classic shot is at sunrise when the peaks glow orange (alpenglow). Arrive at least 45 minutes before sunrise to get a spot.
  • Polarizer: A polarizing filter is essential to cut the glare on the water and make the turquoise color pop.
