Upper Boomerang
The advanced extension of the Boomerang corridor; Run #135, single black diamond. Formerly known as Hikers Paradise. Higher on the ridge than the main bowl; pitch to 29° (vertical drop ~180 ft); staging area for Brown Cow and Boundary Bowl. The hike-to apex requires a 15-minute boot pack from the Boomerang traverse; no lift reaches the top. Access via Summit Chair and traverse from Windy Gap.
Terrain. At the boot-pack summit: Wild Gully and Ghostly Gully (narrow technical chutes; rock-lined; sensitive to snow depth); North Cornice (lee-side cornice for airs into powder bowls); upper Boomerang Bowl (wide-open powder merging with the main run). The run narrows into a “choke” requiring short straight-line or technical turns to exit into the main bowl.
Conditions. Wind-loaded powder; whiteouts and “face-ripping” winds common; reward is often “champagne powder.” No beacon check (unlike Delirium Dive at Sunshine); transceiver, probe, shovel, and skiing with a partner strongly recommended. See Whitehorn Back Bowls for avalanche governance. The Alphabet Gullies (A–I) are visible from the zone.
