Sunwapta Falls
Icefields Parkway, Jasper National Park
A waterfall 176 km north of Lake Louise along the Icefields Parkway in Jasper National Park. Sunwapta Falls illustrates a hanging valley; a smaller tributary river plunges into a deeper canyon carved by larger glaciers during the last ice age.
The Sunwapta River drains the Columbia Icefield and flows into the Athabasca River. The falls are accessible from the highway and mark the transition into the northern sector of the parkway corridor.
