Athabasca Falls
Icefields Parkway, Jasper National Park
A waterfall 200 km north of Lake Louise along the Icefields Parkway in Jasper National Park. Athabasca Falls exemplifies hydraulic erosion; the Athabasca River has carved a dramatic canyon through resistant rock.
The falls sit approximately 35 km south of Jasper. The Caribou Conservation Breeding Centre; Parks Canada’s facility to rebuild Southern Mountain Caribou herds; is located in the wilderness near Athabasca Falls.
